Madame D'Arouet, born Joyce Faust, is one of the most prominent figures in the world of Terra Ignota. Through "Madame's", a gendered brothel specializing in 18th century sex and philosophy, she has cultivated the world's leaders into figures resembling 18th century rulers, created many "brainwashed" children, and pulled the strings to give her child and prodigy J.E.D.D. Mason control over much of the world.
Originally a Blacklaw Hiveless, she became a European upon marrying Prime Minister King Isabel Carlos II of Spain.

Madame usually appears in the heavily stylized makeup and dress of an 18th century noblewoman. She is older than all the world leaders with the exception of Felix Faust, though she looks rather ageless and regal.

Madame is the biological mother of J.E.D.D. Mason, and through her brothel/bash', she has in large part raised Ganymede Jean-Louis de la Trémoïlle, Danaë Marie-Anne de la Trémoïlle Mitsubishi, Dominic Seneschal, and Heloise. She is the current or former lover of King Isabel Carlos II of Spain, Emperor Cornel MASON, and Hotaka Ando Mitsubishi.
